How to Get a UK Seasonal Worker Visa — Full Guide

What Is the Seasonal Worker Visa?

The UK Seasonal Worker Visa lets people from other countries come to the UK for a short time to do specific farm or food work. It is a temporary visa — you cannot use it to stay in the UK permanently.

What Work Can You Do?

There are only two types of work allowed on this visa:

Horticulture — This means picking and packing fruit, vegetables, and flowers on farms. You can apply for this any time of year and stay for up to 6 months.

Poultry — This means working in poultry processing (for example, preparing chicken or turkey). You can only do this type of work between 2 October and 31 December each year. You must apply by 15 November.

You can only work in the job your employer has confirmed for you. You cannot take on a second job or switch to a different role.

Do You Need Any Qualifications?

No. There are no qualifications needed for this visa. You do not need a degree, diploma, or any professional certificate.

The only personal requirement is that you must be 18 years old or over when you apply.

Who Can Apply?

People from most countries around the world can apply for this visa. There is no list of countries that are blocked from applying under the standard rules.

However, a few things to be aware of:

  • Depending on where you are from, you may need to take a tuberculosis (TB) test before applying.
  • Some applicants may need to attend an in-person appointment to confirm their identity.
  • British and Irish citizens do not need this visa.
  • If you are unsure whether you need a visa to enter the UK, you can check on the GOV.UK website using the official visa checker tool.

How Much Does It Cost?

There are two costs to be aware of:

Application fee — £319. This is paid when you submit your online application.

Savings requirement — £1,270. You must have at least £1,270 in your bank account. This money must have been in your account for at least 28 days in a row before you apply. The 28th day must be within 31 days of when you submit your visa application.

If your employer agrees to cover your costs for the first month, they can confirm this on your sponsorship document instead, and you may not need to show your own bank statements.

What Documents Do You Need?

You will need to provide the following when you apply:

Certificate of Sponsorship — This is a reference number given to you by your UK employer. It holds details about your job and your personal information. It is not a paper document. It is valid for 3 months from the date it is given to you, and you can only use it once.

Valid passport — This must show your identity and nationality.

Bank statements — These must show you have at least £1,270 available (unless your employer is covering your costs).

Certified translations — If any of your documents are not in English or Welsh, you must include a certified translation of them.

After you apply, the Home Office may ask you for more documents. Be ready for this.

How Long Does It Take?

Once you have applied online, proved your identity, and provided all your documents, you will usually get a decision within 3 weeks.

You can apply up to 3 months before your start date in the UK.

Most people from most countries in the world can apply, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and have a UK sponsor.

Countries That Commonly Apply:
