The Leicester-based graduate, who is searching for Design Engineer positions in the UK, recently posted on Linkedin, “Hire me for free for one month.” Terminate me immediately, without question, if I fail to deliver. I’ll put in twelve hours a day, seven days a week, to prove myself.
In an attempt to stay in the UK, an Indian student is being criticised for offering to work for a month without receiving pay.
She recently stated on LinkedIn that she had three months to find employment in the UK or face deportation.
The student from Leicester, who came to the UK in 2021 to pursue her studies, claimed that despite submitting over 300 applications, she had yet to find employment that would sponsor her visa.
“Hire me for free for one month. If I don’t deliver, fire me on the spot, no questions asked,” she told recruiters in her appeal on LinkedIn.
She claimed in her most recent, widely shared post on the professional networking site that if her employers were dissatisfied with her work, they could fire her without warning or payment.
For the sole reason that she could remain in the UK, she also pledged to work overtime and without weekly breaks.
She wrote, “I’ll work twelve hours a day, seven days a week, to prove my worth.”
She previously stated in a post that she was searching for design engineer positions in the UK in order to remain there after her student visa expired.
“In three months, my graduate visa expires. To help me stay in the UK, please repost this,” she said.
She wrote, “I’ve been searching nonstop for a visa-sponsored UK job since I graduated in 2022, and the job market seems to have no value for me, my degree, or my abilities… I applied to over 300 jobs and received a few helpful comments.
“This LinkedIn post represents my LAST opportunity to guarantee a sustainable future in the United Kingdom,” she wrote.
Criticised for ‘ridiculous’ post:
Many users on Reddit and LinkedIn attacked her posts for making “ridiculous” requests to stay away from India.
Others who responded to her post claimed that it would result in a toxic workplace in addition to setting unreasonable expectations for employers. The offer of free labour may also negatively affect worthy applicants’ employment prospects.
“The company’s golden is 12 such candidates for 12 months.” Free labour and no pay are provided. One Reddit user commented, “These people are unaware of the extent of the harm that these posts cause.”
“This is shameful and parasitic and it lowers the standards of working for natives,” a Reddit user said in criticism of her.
“Parasite. “Will stop at nothing to remain in the UK,” a LinkedIn user wrote.
One comment said, “It’s sad to see how Indians beg for work to stay abroad.”
“Desperate to hold on to a country that wants to ki kick you out,” said another LinkedIn user in response.
